Pilot plant trial

Introduction

Based on the first course and the second course, the course module 3 is to provide the learners with a practical opportunity to learn how to use the knowledge and data obtained and the technical flowsheets developed by the lab-scale bench and the minipilot testing to the pilot plant trial. GTK Mintec provides the pilot plant of Mineral Processing with a capacity of up to 5 t / h and Automation and process control system. The course consists of introducing upscale knowledge and experience, pilot plant operation, training on data analysis and reporting and industrial plant visit.a practical opportunity to learn how to use the knowledge and data obtained and the technical flowsheet developed by lab-scale bench and continuous line (minipilot) testing to the pilot plant trial. GTK Mintec provides the pilot plant of mineral processing with the capacity of up to 5 t/h and automation and process control system. The course consists of introduction of upscale knowledge and experience, pilot plant operation, training on data analysis (mass balance, simulation, upscaling) and report writing and industrial plant visiting.

 

Target audience

The target group could be the students who have completed the first course at LTU on theoretical studies and the second course at UO on continuous testing studies and are willing to get further training on the pilot scale. The target group could also be the engineers in Mineral Processing who work on design of mineral processing plants or on feasibility studies of new ore deposits and new beneficiation techniques.

Learning objectives

To learn the knowledge and skills of upscaling the data and flow sheets obtained from lab scale to the pilot scale; to obtain the knowledge and experience of operating a pilot testing; and to learn how to analyze the data and write a report.

 

Content

Knowledge introduction

To introduce the knowledge of a pilot plant scale trial including sample preparation, flow chart design and upscaling, Concentrate and tailings handling and experience introduction of previous pilot testing work, and H & S knowledge.

  • Sample preparation:

Sample crushing, blending, head sample assays and Mineralogical analysis etc.

  • Flowsheet design and upscaling,

Scale-up of Milling: Bond Work Index Test and other methods

Scale-up of flotation: conditioning intensity and agitation time, flotation cell, residence time, reagent type and dosage

  • Experience introduction (sulfide ores, oxide ores)

  • Automation and process control system

Pilot plant operation

Joining in running a pilot test including sampling, observation, assay data analysis and parameter adjustment

 

Training on data analysis and reporting writing

Using HSC software for mass balance calculation and simulation

Based on the data of pilot plant testing

 

Industrial plant visiting
